Suggested Gear and Clothing for Pack Trips and Hunts

Summer Pack Trip List (based on a 4-5 day trip)

  • Sleeping bag  (We provide sleeping pads and cots) We recommend it be rated to 0 degrees Fahrenheit or lower (yes, even in summer! Mountain nights can be cold).  Small, packable pillow.  Long underwear or pjs.
  • Pants  Jeans or other long pants for riding; optional shorts for hiking and/or fishing; optional quick-dry pants for rainy days.  Ladies:  looking for a light-weight layer to prevent chaffing while horseback riding?  We recommend Nickers Leggings for under your jeans.  Find them at www.getyournickers.com
  • 1 pair per day socks, underwear, and t-shirts
  • Shirts  short and long-sleeved shirts.
  • Boots  Comfortable, heeled boots for riding and hiking.  
  • Camp Shoes  Something comfortable for relaxing in camp.
  • Water bottle  Filtered if desired
  • Rain gear  Jacket and pants or riding slicker.  No ponchos.
  • Gloves  2 pairs for cooler evenings. A scarf and knit hat, too.
  • Jacket  Mid-weight for cool evenings and mornings.
  • Hat  Cowboy hat or cap with sun visor.
  • Toiletries: we provide hand-washing soap, hand sanitizer, and bug spray; bring your own toothpaste, body soap, deodorant, sunscreen, shampoo, small towel (optional), etc.
  • Headlamp with extra batteries
  • Helmet for riding- optional; we do not supply
  • Book
  • Camera or cell phone for pictures, power pack for recharging. 
  • Fishing equipment  We do not supply fishing equipment but recommend: Fly rods:  8'-9', 3-7 weight that break down to no more than 4' long. Lightweight waders and wading boots, or you can just go in shorts and water shoes. Net, fly floatant, flies, etc. Spinning tackle also welcome. You are responsible for getting a fishing license and conservation stamp before the start of the trip.


*Please pack in pliable duffle bags no longer than 24 inches. Absolutely no suitcases or hard-sided bags. Several small bags are preferable to one large bag. Thank you.**

  • Clothing  1 pair of cotton and 1 pair of wool socks per day.  1 t-shirt per day.  1 pair underwear per day.  2 pairs jeans.  Long underwear top and bottom.  2 long-sleeve shirts, a wool sweater.  2 jackets- one light, one heavy.  1 pair heavy pants (we recommend wool). Scarf or neck rag.  Long underwear or other for sleeping.
  • Gloves  2 pairs: light and heavy insulation
  • Hat  Warm, with visor and ear flaps
  • Rain gear  Coat and pants.  No ponchos.
  • Boots  Two pairs warm, waterproof hiking boots
  • Shoes  One pair comfortable camp shoes
  • Water bottle  With filter if possible
  • Toiletries: we provide hand-washing soap and hand sanitizer; bring your own toothpaste, deodorant, etc.
  • Belt knife or Leatherman
  • Book
  • Headlamp with red light option and extra batteries
  • Camera or cell phone with charge pack
  • Game bags  We do not supply them
  • Scope cover and sling
  • Optics  Binoculars are a must. We have rangefinders but recommend you bring one if possible.
  • Extra ammunition  Bullets and/or arrows and broadheads (fixed blade ONLY)
  • Hunter Orange  Rifle hunters must have one item of orange clothing- hat, vest, or jacket

**You are allowed 50 lbs. of clothing and gear.  This will be enforced.  Please pack in water-resistant, pliable duffle bags no longer than 24 inches.  No suitcases or hard-sided bags. Several small bags are preferable to one large bag. Thank you.**

We do not provide beer, wine, or alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own. Cans/plastic/boxes are preferred but we can pack glass if needed. There is no ice in camp, but we have a "cooler" in the creek.

Travel Insurance and Evacuation Coverage

We recommend purchasing travel insurance and/or emergency evacuation coverage for your trip. We cannot cover client evacuations with our outfitter insurance, and we do not refund trips cancelled due to Forest Service closures. 

Companies like AirMedCare Network, Global Rescue, and Travel Guard offer affordable options.
